Dr. Goebel has been practicing as a licensed psychologist since 2020. She currently performs a variety of forensic examinations through Behavioral Consultants, Inc. (BCI) and the Wisconsin Forensic Unit (WFU). Dr. Goebel specializes in the assessment of various psycholegal issues, including: 

• Competency to proceed to trial, revocation, and sentencing

• Not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect/mental responsibility

• Conditional release/violence risk assessment

• Sex offender risk assessment

• Guardianship/protective placement

• Chapter 51 civil commitment

Dr. Goebel has routinely qualified as an expert witness and has provided testimony in multiple jurisdictions throughout the state of Wisconsin.

 

Dr. Goebel earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a certificate in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 2012. She then attended Roosevelt University, earning her master’s degree in 2015 and her doctorate degree in clinical psychology in 2018. As a graduate student, Dr. Goebel obtained clinical training at several forensic placements, including Cook County Juvenile Probation Department in Chicago and River Valley Detention Center. She also conducted therapy with individuals diagnosed with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use conditions at Gateway Foundation. Prior to working with BCI, she completed her pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at Mendota Mental Health Institute. During that time, Dr. Goebel trained on forensic and correctional units, with both adolescents and adults. She facilitated competency restoration treatment groups, conducted violence risk assessments, and completed competency evaluations at the institution. Following completion of her internship, Dr. Goebel began a postdoctoral forensic psychology fellowship with BCI and the WFU, where she received advanced training performing a range of forensic mental health evaluations of juvenile and adult clients. She also completed a rotation with the Outpatient Competency Restoration Program where she facilitated competency remediation treatment with individuals adjudicated incompetent to proceed. Her training was further supplemented by participation in forensic psychiatry fellowship seminars at Mendota Mental Health Institute.
